I go to a school where people’s style ranges from boho chic to ultra modern and everything in between. But one trend that hasn’t hit us yet is neon. I’ve seen it from time to time but I haven’t really seen a strong neon presence. Now, in terms of my style, I am not a true fan of something that is usually bright and in your face. But, for some reason, neon has been really striking my eye. Now, I’m not saying that you will see me walking down the street in a full-blown neon yellow dress with orange shoes and a highlighter pink bag, but I don’t really see the harm in rocking a bright pair of shoes or even wearing a yellow maxi skirt with a bone colored shirt. NOW…..there is a bad side to wearing neon. This is one of those trends that can be easily over done. A small hint adds some sass to an outfit but when it’s overdone, you look like a physical representation of a Sharpie brand highlighter. If you’re going to do it, always remember that in most cases, less is always more.
H&M
I am officially OBSESSED with H&M. I never really shopped there when I was younger because I thought that all of the clothes were for models and I would look weird in them (don’t ask me why). But last year, I was introduced to the magic by my roommate and I’m hooked. All of the stuff they have is absolutely gorgeous and they embody the 3 C’s. AKA the 3 golden rules I keep in the back of my mind anytime I want to buy anything:
- CLEAN
- CLASSIC
- CHIC
The ONLY problem that I have with them is the fact that they don’t ship in the US. I’m a college student without a car and I can’t always get to the mall, so online shopping is my go-to thing. I went on the H&M website and they show you what clothes they have and how much it is, but for some reason they don’t ship in America :(. Either way, I’m in love and trying to figure out if I know anyone who lives in London so what I can get things shipped to them and then have it shipped to me. Will it happen? Probably not. But there’s no harm in trying.
Tip of the Day: All the Glitters is Not Gold
Sequins have been all over the place recently and I kind of have mixed feelings about them. I have really simple taste (even though I’m the total opposite of simple) so if I’m going out to a party or I have an event where I want to add some glamour to the environment, then I’ll be the first one to wear subtle shine. Other then that, I’m not a fan. I think it’s weird when I see people walking around with shirts, pants and even shoes that can make a disco ball look like a dull 90-year-old lightbulb. There is nothing classy or generally acceptable about having a pair of sequined covered shoes (cough Uggs cough). Seriously, people. If you’re going to wear it during the day, I suggest that you pick something a little bit more mellow like this skirt. Even though it’s covered in sequins, the shine is subtle enough to not over power the rest of the outfit. Not to mention the geometric pattern is enough of a show stopper, so you don’t really need anything else. In the end, just keep it simple. Sometimes, when you think you’re understated, you may have just the right amount of sparkle to catch anyones’ eye.
Satchel Up!
I just read an article by a blogger for Refinery29 (a really great fashion blog; highly recommend it) called “12 Perfect Spring Satchels to Start Wearing Now” and for some reason I got an ugre to write about it. I only have a few bags (I know. I have some shopping to do) but the one that I use most often is a chestnut colored satchel. As much as I love it, I’m kind of sick of it. I want something with a little bit more flair but at the same time is big enough to handle me and my daily luggage. So here are some options of what I’m looking for right now. I’ll put the link to the article at the bottom so that you can get some inspiration of your own.

My Preferitas
I’ve been shopping all week-long for looks for the spring and summer and I am SO EXCITED about all of the new looks that I’m seeing. Even though I’m looking forward to wearing frocks, wedges, and maxi dresses, I’m going to miss knee-high boots, cable knit sweaters, and peacoats. So these are my favorite winter looks that I can’t wait to wear next winter.

Tip of the Day: At Your Fingertips…
Ever since last fall, I’ve been noticing that crazy nail art is coming back into the scene. I’ve seen it all from having your fingernails a different color than your toenails to having one finger completely bejazzled while the rest of your hand sits in a calm neutral color. Normally, I would be all for this. But sometimes people just take it too far and abuse a good thing. It went from being a cute creative idea to an over done mess of mass proportions. Take my advice, if for some reason you feel like you HAVE TO HAVE a design on your hands or else you’ll explode, try something more low key like the picture on the left. It’s subtle enough so that you don’t look like you have a bag of skittles sitting on your fingers; and yet it’s really cute, original, and overall a great idea!
Between The Lines
A trend that I never thought I could get into but truly admired was stripes. When worn correctly, stripes can give anyone a very clean and simple look and can be paired with almost anything. When worn incorrectly, you can look like an unbrella sitting over a patio table. I always thought that they made me look really wide so I’ve always stuck to solids. Plus, it took me a while to realize that stripes aren’t restricted to only one season. About a week or so ago, I decided to let go of my predisposition about stripes and find a style that works for me. I’ve seen a few pieces recently that have tickled my fancy, so take a peek and tell me what you think….
Tip of the Day: Color Blocking
One trend that I’m slowly trying to get myself into is color blocking. To me, it’s one of those trends that can work for every season. You can do anything with it whether it’s wearing a tomato red top and magenta skirt or wearing a dress that has emerald, white, and navy on it. It’s a really interesting way to add a pop of personality to your outfit without having to use a crazy pattern. One thing that people tend o be confused about (at least in my opinion) is that your colors do NOT have to be total and complete opposites. You don’t have to wear enough colors for someone to mistake you for a tropical pack of Starbursts. The idea behind picking colors is that you want to items with colors that compliment each other like coral and emerald or navy and yellow. It’s super easy to pull off and can make anyone look chic.
The Beginning of an Era
For a while now I have felt myself changing. I know that there are the obvious reasons for change like that fact that I’m in college and I officially out on my own, but I feel like there’s something else … Continue reading
Tip of the Day: Less is More
One thing that has really been bugging me recently is seeing people who like to do too much at once. I can’t tell you how many girls I
saw today with fur vests, infinity scarves, trench coats, leather leggings, a sequined shirt, cheetah print booties, and jewelry that could choke someone to death. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Personally, I value simplicity in all areas of my life, especially fashion. When you have too much of anything, it’s never a good thing. When you wear that many statement items together, the beauty of them gets cancelled out and you look like some type a clown faux pas. Take it from someone who’s experimented with everything from overalls to bow ties and oxfords, keep calm and be simple. You don’t want to ruin something that could be amazing because you want to wear everything in your closet in one day.
